The Space Between What Was and What’s Next

For most of my life, I followed a path that looked clear. I had the long, successful career with work I cared about and with people I respected.
For more than three decades, I built my professional identity in marketing and communications. I worked with remarkable colleagues, led meaningful projects, and had the privilege of helping organizations tell their stories.
But for years I also thought about: What comes next? Not the next promotion, but something deeper than that.
Many women reach midlife and feel this shift. A moment when the roles we’ve carried for decades: mother, professional, partner, leader all begin to evolve.
The life that once fit starts to feel a little different. Not wrong, but just a bit incomplete.
For me, it was years in the making. It came slowly through conversations, through coaching training, through the stories women shared with me about their own transitions. Women who had spent years building careers, raising families, showing up for everyone around them, but many times putting themselves last on their priority list.
And then one day they looked around and asked themselves: What do I want this next chapter of my life to be?
That question changed everything for me.
It led me to step away from a long career and begin building something new with a purpose that mattered so much to me. A coaching practice called Create What’s Next, dedicated to helping women in midlife intentionally design the next chapter of their lives.
Not by abandoning what came before, but by taking that wisdom and building on it.
Midlife is often described as a crisis. I see it differently, I see it as a crossroads. A moment when experience, wisdom, and possibility all meet at the same time. How awesome is that?!
We know more about ourselves than we ever have and finally we care less about other people’s expectations and opinions.
The best part: we still have so much life ahead of us! And if we recognize that and intentionally create our next chapter, we find ourselves with a powerful opportunity to live more authentically then ever. I want to explore the questions many women may not give themselves the permission to ask:
How do I reinvent myself after decades of doing what was expected?
How do I rediscover creativity, purpose, and curiosity?
How do I make intentional choices about the years ahead?
Some posts will be reflections from my own journey, while some will include ideas and exercises from my coaching work.
All will be observations about midlife, change, and the courage it takes to live authentically, on your terms.
I love to express myself through writing and my photography. So you will find each post will begin with a moment of beauty, like this sunset, that reminds us something new is always possible.
The sun sets every day, but what fascinates me is that each sunset also signals the beginning of something else: another morning and opportunity to write that new chapter waiting to be written.
If you are standing at that same horizon, wondering what comes next, you’re in the right place.
Welcome.
